Koi pond and cascading stream at the Japanese Friendship Garden

The Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park contains a koi pond fed by a small cascading stream and waterfall designed in the tradition of Japanese stroll gardens. The water feature provides circulating, oxygenated water for the pond's koi and is a central aesthetic element of the garden's tea pavilion area. The garden is operated by the Japanese Friendship Garden Society of San Diego and underwent significant improvements and restoration in the 2010s.
