Sutro Baths ruins at Lands End (coastal tidal pool complex)

The Sutro Baths were a massive saltwater bathing complex built into a coastal cove at Lands End in 1896; the structure used the natural cove and tidal action to fill large indoor and outdoor pools. The complex burned in 1966 and the remaining concrete ruins now sit directly on the rocky shoreline and cliffs, where tidal action and coastal erosion interact with historic man-made structures. The site is a notable example of large-scale coastal engineering constructed into a natural cove within San Francisco city limits.
