D.C. Council recognition of go-go as the District's official music

The Council of the District of Columbia passed legislation recognizing go-go as the official music of Washington, D.C., reflecting the genre's origins and central role in the city's cultural life. Go-go emerged in the 1970s in Washington and is widely associated with Chuck Brown, often called the 'Godfather of Go-Go'; his 1979 single 'Bustin' Loose' reached number one on the Billboard R&B chart. The recognition by the D.C. Council was enacted at the John A. Wilson Building, the seat of District government.
