Mission Concepcion

Mission Concepción, established in 1711 by Franciscan Friars in Texas, is a historic site that played a crucial role in the early efforts to convert local Native Americans to Catholicism. Originally located in East Texas, it was relocated to San Antonio in 1731, where it became home to the Pajalats people. The mission is notable for being the oldest unrestored stone church in America and is part of the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors can explore its sanctuary, nave, and convento, and witness remnants of vibrant frescoes that once adorned its walls. The mission is also historically significant as the site of the Battle of Concepción during the Texas Revolution. Catholic Mass is still celebrated here every Sunday, making it a living piece of history.
