Lincoln's Cottage - Civil War Era Retreat

Lincoln's Cottage at the Soldiers’ Home served as President Abraham Lincoln's summer residence and retreat during the Civil War and is where he spent significant time in 1862–1864. Historians note Lincoln met with advisers there and drafted major documents, including portions of his thinking that contributed to the Emancipation Proclamation. The preserved 19th-century cottage and grounds are operated as a historic site and museum.
