Ionia (Trevilians, Virginia)

Ionia is a historic frame house located near Trevilians, Virginia, originally built around 1775 as Clover Plains by Major James Watson, a prosperous plantation owner. The house served as the centerpiece of one of the largest plantations in Louisa County during the late 18th century. After Major Watson's death, it was renamed Ionia by his son, Dr. George Watson, who used it as a summer residence. The property features original woodwork and several dependencies, including a dairy house and slave quarters. Ionia is part of the Green Springs National Historic Landmark District and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, making it a significant site for tourists and researchers interested in American history and architecture.
