Richmond Castle, Kalutara

Richmond Castle is an impressive Edwardian mansion located near Kalutara, Sri Lanka, built between 1900 and 1910 as the residence of Mudaliyar Don Arthur de Silva Wijesinghe Siriwardena. Nestled on a 42-acre estate overlooking the Kalu Ganga River, this two-storey building features 16 rooms, 99 doors, and 34 windows, showcasing exquisite materials sourced from around the world. The mansion's design was inspired by a castle in India, and it reflects the ambition and craftsmanship of its creator. Today, Richmond Castle is open to the public and serves as a historical site, having been bequeathed to the Public Trustee with the intention of becoming a children's home. Visitors can explore its rich history and architectural beauty, making it a fascinating destination for tourists and researchers alike.
