Idlewild (Fredericksburg, Virginia)

Idlewild, also known as the Downman House, is a historic Gothic Revival-style mansion located in Fredericksburg, Virginia, built in 1859. This significant landmark served as Confederate General Robert E. Lee's headquarters during the Civil War's Chancellorsville campaign. Although it suffered extensive damage from a fire in 2003, the property still features three contributing brick dependencies and a pet cemetery. The house is recognized for its architectural style and historical importance, having been listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.
