Canons Garth

Canons Garth is a historic building located in Helmsley, North Yorkshire, England, dating back to the late 14th century. Originally constructed as a hall house for the canons of Kirkham Abbey, it features a unique architectural style with sandstone ground floors and timber-framed upper levels. The house underwent significant alterations in the 17th century and again in 1889, when a chapel and study were added. Notable interior elements include medieval floor tiles from Rievaulx Abbey and a 16th-century fireplace from Helmsley Castle. Designated as a grade II* listed building since 1955, Canons Garth has served various purposes over the centuries, including a retreat for the Society of All Saints Sisters of the Poor and a parsonage for All Saints' Church.
