Hirschholm Palace

Hirschholm Palace, located in Hørsholm municipality near Copenhagen, Denmark, was a stunning Baroque royal palace built in the 1740s and often referred to as the 'Versailles of the North.' Originally a medieval fortification, it became a summer residence for Danish royalty, particularly under King Christian VI and Queen Sophie Magdalene. The palace gained notoriety in the 1770s due to the scandalous affair between Queen Caroline Mathilda and Johann Friedrich Struensee. After falling into disrepair, it was demolished between 1809 and 1813. Today, visitors can explore the remnants of the palace grounds, including a small church and a local history museum that highlights the palace's rich history and its royal connections.
