Westgate House, Newcastle upon Tyne

Westgate House was a notable 12-storey Brutalist office block in Newcastle upon Tyne, completed in 1972 and demolished between 2006 and 2007. Designed to serve as a 'gateway' to the city, it housed various government agencies, with the Citizens Advice Bureau being its last tenant until 2001. Despite its initial purpose, the building became infamous for its unpopularity, often described as one of the ugliest structures in Tyneside, and was featured in a Channel 4 series highlighting buildings deserving demolition. Its eventual demolition was a meticulous process due to its proximity to other structures, marking the end of an era for this controversial landmark.
