Citadel of Biên Hòa

The Citadel of Biên Hòa, located in Đồng Nai, Vietnam, is the only surviving ancient citadel in Southern Vietnam. Originally built by the Chenla people, it was reconstructed in 1834 by Emperor Minh Mang and later upgraded to a laterite structure. This historic site features a French architectural mansion within its 10,816.5 m2 grounds. The citadel has a rich history, having served as a military barracks during French colonial rule and undergoing significant degradation due to war. Efforts for its restoration have led to its recognition as a national historical relic in 2013, making it a fascinating destination for tourists and researchers interested in Vietnam's history and architecture.
