Philips Pavilion

The Philips Pavilion was a striking modernist structure in Brussels, Belgium, built for the 1958 Brussels World's Fair. Designed by the renowned architect Le Corbusier and project-managed by composer Iannis Xenakis, it showcased a groundbreaking multimedia experience featuring Edgard Varèse's Poème électronique, spatialized through 325 loudspeakers embedded in its unique hyperbolic paraboloid design. The pavilion's innovative use of sound and architecture created an immersive environment that celebrated postwar technological advancements. Although it was intended as a temporary installation and was demolished in early 1959, its legacy continues to inspire modern architecture, including the Warszawa Ochota train station in Poland. A virtual recreation of the pavilion has been funded by the European Union, allowing new generations to experience its historical significance.
