Colorado State Capitol - One Mile Above Sea Level Marker

A brass marker on the 13th step of the west exterior stairs of the Colorado State Capitol marks one mile (5,280 feet) above sea level. The marker and step are a long-standing, documented feature used by visitors to note Denver's elevation. The west steps face downtown and provide a commonly photographed vantage of the city with the Front Range visible on clear days.
