Fort Worth Water Gardens - Active Pool viewpoints

The Fort Worth Water Gardens, designed by Philip Johnson and John Burgee and completed in 1974, contains the sunken Active Pool: a 38-foot-deep concrete basin with terraced steps that channel water downward. Visitors can descend the stepped terraces to stand close to the rushing water, producing a dramatic, enclosed vantage point in the middle of downtown. The terraces and surrounding platforms create layered, framed views of the pool and adjacent Bass Performance Hall. The site is a frequently photographed urban design feature in Sundance Square.
