Chicago & North Western Railway Stone Arch Bridge

The Chicago & North Western Railway Stone Arch Bridge, also known as the Kinnikinnick Creek Railway Bridge, is a historic structure located east of Roscoe, Illinois. Built in 1882, this impressive double arch bridge was designed by C&NW Chief Engineer Van Mienen and spans South Kinnikinnick Creek. It played a crucial role in facilitating the sand quarrying industry in the region by enabling the transport of materials to Chicago. Notably, it is the only stone-faced rubble fill bridge with multiple arches in Winnebago County and is recognized for its historical significance, having been added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993. Today, it forms part of the Stone Bridge Trail, offering visitors a glimpse into the area's rich railway history.
