Vicars' Court, Lincoln

Vicars' Court, located in the picturesque Minster Yard south of Lincoln Cathedral, is a historic site founded in the late 13th century by Bishop Sutton as a college for priests. This well-preserved structure, one of only eight such colleges in England, features four irregular two-storeyed ranges surrounding a sloping courtyard. Visitors can admire the 14th-century entrance gateway adorned with Bishop Gravesend's arms, intricate architectural details including medieval doorways and windows, and remnants of its storied past, including damage from the English Civil War. The site offers a glimpse into the ecclesiastical history of Lincoln and the architectural evolution of its religious institutions.
