J.L. Hudson Department Store flagship building

The J.L. Hudson flagship department store building at 1206 Woodward Avenue grew into what was long regarded as the tallest department store building in the world after early 20th-century expansions. The store closed in 1983 and the vacant landmark building was demolished in 1998, one of the largest demolitions of a major retail structure in U.S. history. The Hudson site remains a notable element of Detroit's commercial and architectural history.
