Merthyr Tydfil Town Hall

Merthyr Tydfil Town Hall, located in the heart of Merthyr Tydfil, Wales, is a stunning Grade II* listed municipal building with a rich history dating back to its completion in 1898. Designed in the Renaissance style by Edwin Arthur Johnson, it features striking red Cattybrook brick and orange terracotta dressings. The town hall served as the headquarters for local governance and was the site of significant political events, including the announcement of Keir Hardie's election in 1900. After various uses, including a nightclub, it underwent restoration and was reopened in 2014 as the Red House, an arts and creative industries center. Visitors can explore the historical significance of the building and enjoy the newly developed Penderyn Square, which commemorates the Merthyr Rising of 1831.
