Gaffoor Building

The Gaffoor Building is a historic four-storey structure located in Colombo Fort, Sri Lanka, known for its unique wedge shape and significant cultural heritage. Completed in 1915, it was originally built for Noordeen Hajiar Abdul Gaffoor, a pioneering jeweller and gem trader who gained prominence for his exclusive rights to sell gems in Colombo's harbour. The building housed various prominent companies and served as the office for the Australian High Commissioner in the late 1940s. Declared a 'Protected Monument' in 2000, the building has faced challenges due to its deteriorating condition and legal disputes over ownership. Recent plans aim to redevelop it into a boutique hotel while preserving its historical significance, making it a point of interest for tourists and researchers alike.
