Alamo Stadium - WPA-era high school football venue (opened 1940)

Alamo Stadium opened in 1940 as a Works Progress Administration-era public works project and has served for decades as San Antonio's primary high school football venue. The stadium originally seated about 23,000 spectators and has hosted local high school championships as well as professional exhibitions, including USFL games in the 1980s. Its long-running use for Friday night high school football makes it a landmark in the city's sports history.
