Barrett–Byam Homestead

The Barrett–Byam Homestead, located in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, is a historic house that serves as the headquarters of the Chelmsford Historical Society. Established in 1663 by Thomas Barrett, the homestead features a classic south-facing 'saltbox' design with a central chimney and fireplaces in every room. While the original structure dates back to the 17th century, much of what visitors see today reflects mid-18th century renovations, including the introduction of Rumford fireplaces around 1800. This site offers a glimpse into early colonial architecture and the history of the region.
