Tyro Mill

Tyro Mill is a historic grist mill located in Tyro, Virginia, built between 1846 and 1847, with later additions in the 19th century. This multi-story frame structure features a distinctive metal-sheathed gable roof and a sturdy stone foundation. Visitors can see an overshot metal wheel and original machinery, including wood gears, drive shafts, and millstones. The site also includes a mid-19th century log dwelling, traditionally known as the miller's house, which has been updated with 20th-century additions. Tyro Mill was recognized for its historical significance and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006, making it an intriguing destination for tourists and researchers interested in American industrial history.
