Phoenix Indian School (site now Steele Indian School Park)

The Phoenix Indian School operated on this central Phoenix site from 1891 until it closed in 1990 as part of the federal Indian boarding school system. After closure, many original school buildings were removed and the site was redeveloped; Steele Indian School Park, a city park, opened on the grounds in 2001. The park includes interpretive displays acknowledging the history of the boarding school and the site's significance to Native American communities.
