Hohokam canals at Pueblo Grande

Pueblo Grande Museum and Archaeological Park preserves a Hohokam platform mound and evidence of an extensive prehistoric irrigation network built by the Hohokam people between roughly 450 and 1450 CE. Archaeological excavations at the site document canal segments and agricultural features that supported large, settled communities in what is now central Phoenix. Modern-day Phoenix waterways and some canal routes run near or atop ancient Hohokam alignments, a fact often noted in local histories and interpretive materials.
