Pui Tak Center

The Pui Tak Center, located in Chicago's Chinatown, is a historic building originally opened in 1928 as the On Leong Merchants Association Building. Designed by architects Michaelsen and Rognstad, it served as an immigrant assistance center and was informally known as Chinatown's 'city hall'. After a tumultuous history, including a federal raid in 1988, the building was purchased by the Chinese Christian Union Church in 1993 and renamed. It has since been renovated and now hosts various community and educational programs, including ESL courses. In 2025, it became the first building in Chicago's Chinatown to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places, highlighting its significance as a cultural landmark.
