Beth Israel Synagogue (Roanoke, Virginia)

Beth Israel Synagogue, founded in 1900, is a Conservative synagogue located in Roanoke, Virginia. The striking 1925 building, designed by Frye and Stone, features a unique blend of Classical Revival architecture, highlighted by a two-story Ionic portico and a small Star of David. With a membership of around 160 families as of 2009, the synagogue underwent a thoughtful expansion and renovation in 2007, preserving its historic façade within Roanoke's Old Southwest district. Rabbi Fabian Werbin has been leading the congregation since 2008, making it a vibrant part of the local Jewish community.
