Great Boston Fire of 1872 - interpreted at Boston Fire Museum

The Great Boston Fire of November 9–10, 1872 destroyed roughly 65 acres of downtown Boston and about 776 buildings, making it one of the most destructive urban fires in U.S. history. The fire prompted major changes in building codes, insurance practices, and firefighting organization in Boston.
