Times Square New Year's Eve Ball (bright LED spectacle)

The Times Square Ball is a geodesic sphere mounted on the roof of 1 Times Square that is lowered each New Year's Eve as a highly visible, programmed light spectacle. The current ball uses thousands of LED modules and produces a bright, changing display that is visible across Midtown Manhattan. The event dates back to 1907 in concept and the modern LED ball has been in use since 2008, making it a recurring source of intense, unusual lights over the city.
