White Fathers' House

The White Fathers' House, also known as Atiman House, is a historical building located in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on Sokoine Street near St. Joseph's Cathedral. Established in the 1860s as a harem for Sultan Majid of Zanzibar, it became the base for the White Fathers mission in East Africa in 1922. The house is named after Dr. Adrien Atiman, a former slave who became a Catholic catechist and served in Tanzania until his death in 1924. Visitors can explore the building and view exhibits featuring historical photographs of Dar es Salaam's waterfront from the early 20th century, offering a glimpse into the city's colonial past.
