Steele Indian School Park (former Phoenix Indian School)

The Phoenix Indian School operated on this site as a federal Indian boarding school from 1891 until its closure in 1990. The property was redeveloped and opened as Steele Indian School Park in 2001, preserving some original buildings and commemorating the site's history. The park documents the transformation of a federal institutional campus into public urban parkland in central Phoenix.
