Chicago Defender Building

The Chicago Defender Building, situated at 3435 S. Indiana Avenue in the historic Black Metropolis-Bronzeville District, served as the headquarters for the influential Chicago Defender newspaper from 1920 to 1960. Originally designed by architect Henry L. Newhouse as a synagogue, this landmark structure was designated a Chicago Landmark in 1998, reflecting its significance in the African American community and its role in the civil rights movement.
