Great Molasses Flood site

On January 15, 1919 a 2.3 million-gallon molasses storage tank owned by the Purity Distilling Company ruptured in Boston's North End, sending a wave of molasses through nearby streets. The disaster killed 21 people and injured about 150, and it prompted changes in industrial construction oversight and building inspection practices. The tank's location is commonly recorded at 529 Commercial Street, near the intersection with what was then Keystone Street.
