Monterosa (Warrenton, Virginia)

Monterosa, also known as Monte Rosa or Neptune Lodge, is a historic house in Warrenton, Virginia, built between 1847 and 1848. This 2+1⁄2-story stuccoed brick home showcases Colonial Revival style and has a rich history, having changed hands 67 times during the Civil War due to its strategic location. Originally the residence of Confederate General William 'Extra Billy' Smith, the property includes an Italianate stable and a smokehouse. After various ownership changes, it was renamed Neptune Lodge and underwent renovations. Monterosa is recognized for its historical significance, listed on the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places, and is now part of the Warrenton Historic District.
