King's Observatory

The King's Observatory, located in Richmond, London, is a historic Grade I listed building originally founded by King George III in 1769 for astronomical observations. Designed by architect Sir William Chambers, it played a significant role in the history of science, including the observation of the transit of Venus. The observatory was later known as Kew Observatory and became a center for meteorological and geomagnetic research, contributing to advancements in weather forecasting and atmospheric studies. Although now a private residence, it is situated within the grounds of the Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Club and occasionally opens to the public, offering a glimpse into its rich scientific heritage.
