National Biscuit Company Building (Des Moines, Iowa)

The National Biscuit Company Building, also known as National Biscuit Company Flats, is a historic site in downtown Des Moines, Iowa, built in 1906. Originally a production facility for the National Biscuit Company, it played a key role in the production of popular snacks like the Uneeda Biscuit. Designed in a Neoclassical style by architect William F. Wilmouth, the building has served various purposes over the years, including as a warehouse and training center. In 1995, it was transformed into a 54-unit apartment complex, contributing to the revitalization of the area. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004, making it a noteworthy destination for tourists and researchers interested in industrial history and architecture.
