Foyles Building

The Foyles Building, located at 111–119 Charing Cross Road in London, was once the flagship store of the renowned Foyles bookshop chain from 1929 until its closure in 2014. Known as the world's largest bookshop at its peak, it was designed by architects F. Taperell and H. Haase and was notable for its unique construction as a purpose-built bookshop. The store gained historical significance during World War II when it used copies of Hitler's Mein Kampf as sandbags for protection against bombings. Despite efforts to preserve the building, it was demolished in 2017 to make way for a new development. Today, visitors can explore the new Foyles location nearby, which continues the legacy of this iconic literary landmark.
