Children's Pool (Casa Beach)

The Children's Pool in La Jolla was enclosed with a protective seawall in 1931 by philanthropist Ellen Browning Scripps to create a safe swimming area for children. In recent decades the site has become a frequent harbor seal haul-out and pupping area, leading to seasonal closures and wildlife protections. The beach has been the focus of legal and community disputes concerning public access and marine mammal conservation. The site is a well-known natural and cultural feature of the La Jolla shoreline.
