Oak Leaf (house)

Oak Leaf is a historic colonial house located in Eatons Neck, New York, built in 1784 by Revolutionary War hero John Sloss Hobart. It is the only surviving structure from the manorial era of the former Manor of Eaton. The house, named for the surrounding oak trees, served as a temporary residence for Hobart after the British sacked his original home. Over the years, it changed hands several times, with notable owners including industrialist Cornelius H. DeLamater and author John Steinbeck. The property features a preserved colonial well and has undergone various expansions, including a wrap-around porch. Today, Oak Leaf stands as a testament to early American history and architecture, offering a glimpse into the past for visitors and researchers alike.
