Bassett Hall

Bassett Hall is an 18th-century farmhouse in Williamsburg, Virginia, originally built between 1753 and 1766. It served as the residence of John D. Rockefeller Jr. and his wife during the restoration of Colonial Williamsburg. The house has a rich history, having been owned by Burwell Bassett, Martha Washington's nephew, and was once visited by Union cavalryman George Armstrong Custer during the Civil War. In 1926, Rockefeller was inspired to preserve Williamsburg's historic buildings and later made Bassett Hall his family's retreat. Now open to the public, the home retains its 1930s and 1940s charm, complete with Colonial Revival gardens.
