Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern (adaptive reuse reservoir)

The Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern is a decommissioned 1926 underground drinking-water reservoir beneath Buffalo Bayou Park that was reopened as a public art and event space in 2016. The space contains 221 concrete columns across roughly 87,500 square feet and is used for guided tours, installations, and performances highlighting its vaulted industrial architecture. Its conversion is a documented example of adaptive reuse of municipal infrastructure in Houston.
