Belle Isle island park transferred to state control

Belle Isle is an island park in the Detroit River that lies within the municipal boundaries of the City of Detroit. In 2013 the Michigan Legislature approved a 30-year lease of Belle Isle and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources began managing it as a Michigan state park in 2014. The island is connected to Detroit by a bridge and is notable as a large urban island park in an international river corridor.
