Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden
By Seeker
Built about 1799–1802 as a country stagecoach hotel north of the 18th-century city, the Mount Vernon Hotel is preserved as a museum interpreting early 19th-century leisure and domestic life in Manhattan. The site includes furnished period rooms, decorative arts, and a reconstructed walled garden that illustrate Federal-period urban retreat practices. The house opened to the public as a museum in the 20th century and is a designated New York City landmark.
