Black Homestead Farm

Black Homestead Farm, established in 1821 by one of Greene County's first settlers, Margaret Black, is a historic site located west of Carrollton, Illinois. The farmhouse, designed by architect William Reay, is the oldest surviving house in the county, showcasing a Federal architectural style with a Greek Revival porch added in 1855. The property includes several 19th-century farm buildings such as a smokehouse and horse barn, and it has a rich agricultural history, having raised livestock and grown grain. Today, the farm continues to cultivate corn and soybeans, making it a fascinating destination for tourists and researchers interested in early American agriculture and architecture. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.
