The Grotto (National Sanctuary of Our Sorrowful Mother) and Festival of Lights

The Grotto is a Catholic sanctuary and botanical garden founded in 1924 that includes a cliffside grotto and devotional spaces operated by the Order of Friars Minor. Each winter it presents the Festival of Lights, an annual holiday display that features thousands of lights and draws visitors for evening walks and seasonal programming. The site is a longtime religious and cultural landmark in northeast Portland.
