Peter's Point Plantation

Peter's Point Plantation is a historic house located on Edisto Island, South Carolina, built in 1840 by Isaac Jenkins Mikell, a prominent planter and Princeton graduate. This plantation was once one of the largest producers of Sea Island Cotton, spanning 2,200 acres by 1860. The house showcases early Edisto Island plantation and Greek Revival architectural styles, representing a transitional phase in plantation design. Notably, it served as a departure point for General Lafayette during his southern tour in 1826. The plantation has been in the Mikell family since 1715 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. Today, it is protected by a conservation easement held by the Edisto Island Open Land Trust, ensuring its historical significance is preserved for future generations.
