Frederiksborg Latin School

Frederiksborg Latin School, established in 1566 in Hillerød, Denmark, has a rich history tied to the nearby Frederiksborg Castle. The original school closed in 1586, but a new institution was founded in 1630, with its building completed in 1633. The current Neoclassical structure, designed by Jørgen Hansen Koch, was inaugurated in 1836 after a fire destroyed the previous building. Renamed Frederiksborg State School in 1903, it became coeducational and accessible to working-class boys. Although the school moved to new premises in 1958 and is now known as Frederiksborg Gymnasium, the historic building remains a protected site and is currently rented out to tenants, offering a glimpse into Denmark's educational heritage.
