The Gates (Christo and Jeanne-Claude)

The Gates was a temporary installation of 7,503 saffron-colored fabric panels hung from free-standing steel frames threaded along 23 miles of Central Park pathways. The project was installed from February 12 to February 27, 2005 after more than two decades of planning and fundraising, and it was produced with the cooperation of the Central Park Conservancy and city agencies. The work drew millions of visitors during its short run and is one of the largest temporary public art projects ever realized in New York City.
