Hermann Park (donation by George H. Hermann)

Hermann Park is named for George H. Hermann, a Houston philanthropist whose estate provided funds and land used to create the park and support civic institutions. The park opened in the early 20th century and contains attractions such as the Houston Zoo, the Miller Outdoor Theatre, and McGovern Lake. Hermann's bequest and land transfers were instrumental in establishing the park as one of Houston's major public green spaces.
