Kiam Building

The Kiam Building, located at 320 Main Street in Downtown Houston, is a historic five-story brick structure completed in 1893 and designed in the Romanesque Revival style by architect H.C. Holland. Notably, it was the first building in Houston to feature an electric elevator and was equipped with electric lighting. Originally home to clothier Ed Kiam's haberdashery on the ground floor, it also served as office space on the upper levels. The building housed the retailer Sakowitz from 1918 to 1929. In 1981, Barry Moore restored the Kiam Building, earning a Good Brick Award from the Greater Houston Preservation Alliance for his efforts.
